Most organizations, even those that choose to implement CPOE in a “Big Bang” (all units and all providers at once) will perform an initial pilot.  A pilot test allows the team to validate that the workflow processes, system set up, training effectiveness and end user proficiency with the new system.  Revisions to the implementation and rollout strategy can be made based on the pilot group’s experience.
