The Initiating Stage of Implementation
General
The first step in any new project is the initiation phase. This stage requires commitment from leadership and an executive summary or project overview.
Buy in from leadership
- Administrative Leadership
- CEO Commitment
- CIO committement - of resources (financial and personnel)
- COO committment - will need to understand the impact on workflow and the implications on personnel and finances
- Medical Staff Leadership
- Will help with acceptance
- Can help identify physician champions
- Board Commitment
- Must understand the ongoing financial committment
- Must understand the hard and soft ROI (must be committed to improving pt safety and reducing medical errors)
- Appointment of a Project Sponsor. The Project Sponsor is external to the project organization and at a level that is able to fund the project.
Project Charter
The Project Sponsor issues this document to authorize the existence of the project.
- business drivers, benefits and barriers, scope, mention of risk, financial implications, sources of funding, regulatory / legislative compliance.
