  • Review all policies and Procedures for relevance to CPOE
  • Collect the P&Ps which may need to be modified
  • Be sure to include revision date, last reviewed date and owner on the document
  • Questions to consider
    • Will you allow the use of scribes
    • How will you manage verbal orders
    • How will you manage nurse initiated protocols

 

Discussion:

During this stage it is to review all the policies and procedures in your hospital and /or clinic and the impact CPOE will have on them  It is very likely that you will not know how it will affect many of them until you have evaluated your workflow and redesigned it for the post CPOE era.  Being able to change them readily is a reason we recommend having them posted on your intranet site (mentioned in the planning stage) so there are not binders of out of date documents sprinkled around your facility.
